The Amsterdam based Les Enfant Terribles take the leap from running adventurous clubnights, to releasing records. Having built up a fine reputation with their nights in the sorely missed Trouw Amsterdam, where the crew had regular guests in the likes of Eric Cloutier, Delta Funktionen, Function, Recondite and more they will now starting up a label that will deal in all sorts of considered house and techno sounds. First up for release number one is resident DJ JP Enfant, who previously released on Don Williams’s a.r.t.less label.
Opening up the three track EP is Subconscious Leverage, a sparse and moody electronic track that has waves breaking on a moon like surface. Globular synths and implicit rhythms snake along and carry you with them, but you are always left looking over your shoulder throughout this fine bit of atmospheric craftsman ship. Dreaming Backwards has a hulking great techno kick drum that never lets up and the whole track is about lulling you into a deep hypnosis. Long tailed ambient pads stream in the distance and the percussive adds bit to the groove without distracting from it.
Lastly, Subliminal Message Of Fear is somewhere in between the two: it is techno tempo but is again hugely atmospheric as subtle filters mean hi hats ride up and down next to wet claps and cavernous pads. This is supple, stripped back head music and is a fine way to kick off a new label.
