JP Enfant returns to his own label for a third solo EP. The Dutchman, who is a resident at De School in Amsterdam, mixes up techno, breakbeat, ambient, dub and house into his own long and all consuming tracks, and on his latest EP he does that once more.
Opener 'Serum' is a spacious and elastic groove from a post-industrial world. Its dubbed out and warm, with soft pads in the background and sterner little riffs in the foreground. It’s music for the head while 'REM-Phase' is then much more aimed at the body, with driving techno kicks setting a quick pace. Sci-fi sounds and scraping hits peel off the groove, and it never lets up.
On the flip, 'Project Northwood' is a deep techno banger with hypnotic synths and vamping chords all layered up to bring the pressure before final cut 'Coronel' sets in. This the most unhinged of the lot. Rasping synths and raw percussion add grit and bite to the techno drums, and the whole thing is a peak time weapon designed for plenty of destruction. Once again, this versatile and robust offering from JP Enfant is another standout release.
